Adrian Wiszniewski RSA is an internationally-acclaimed Scottish artist known for his figurative painting and potent symbolism.
Wiszniewski was born in Glasgow in 1958 and trained at Glasgow School of Art (1979 - 1983). He was a leading figure in the revival of figurative painting in a group known as the New Glasgow Boys in the 1980s. Wiszniewski creates work characterised by strong draughtsmanship and a fertile imagination. Populated with contemplative figures set in vividly coloured Arcadian landscapes, his paintings and prints are rich with complex socio-political symbolism. His work is held in many international collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Metropolitan Museum, New York; Setagaya Museum, Tokyo; the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; and Tate Britain, London.
