Toby Paterson was born in Glasgow in 1974 and is still based in the city. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating in 1995.
He is the recipient of several public commissions, including the Powder Blue Orthogonal Pavilion, part of the Portavilion project in London, and the Docklands Light Railway for the London Olympics in 2012.
Toby’s art has its origins in his relationship with the city’s urban landscape. His paintings, reliefs and constructions explore the relationship between abstraction and reality and display his keen interest in post-war modernist architecture.
