The artist - This painting was part of a series I made of people assuming the pose of a thinker, inspired by Rodin’s original. Astrid was my youngest thinker, and in painting her I wasn’t so much aiming to capture her likeness but more something of her character and youth. For me it’s really the contrast between her vibrancy and her calm direct gaze which is engaging.
