Naylor is an expressive figurative artist, inspired by the feeling of empowerment created when intuitively moving the female body. Influenced by her experiences as a yoga teacher, she draws on her efforts to help women embrace their bodies through mindful movement. Working predominantly with oil paints on a large scale, she creates larger-than-life images of motion, aiming to convey a sense of movement to the viewer. Naylor challenges patriarchal portrayals of women, reclaiming agency of the female body through her work.
Flow is inspired by the ‘flow state’ experienced by women during yoga practice, where they become fully immersed in the present moment. This immersive state dissolves worries about physical appearance, leading to a sense of empowerment. Through expressive brushwork that obscures a clear image of the female form, Naylor’s painting captures this empowering sensation of flow.
