My practise is inspired by images of the past where I look for a schism between a posed photograph of the past and perhaps a dark, odd or eccentric interpretation one would have today of the same image.  I like to have a certain lack of control or improvisation in my painting, showing the ground, the underlying sketch, parts unresolved or ambiguous in order to draw the eye in and offer the viewer their own interpretation.

 

I use thin oil glaze and layers of paint and enjoy how the paint runs, puddles and crepes offering me an opportunity to react and develop the rhythms and passages of paint, adding to a lively result, where serendipity meets a planned technical approach.
