Michael Johnson has been painting for over 40 years and has exhibited widely in solo and group shows. He took a first at Reading University, followed by a Postgraduate Scholarship at the Byam Shaw School of Art. Exhibitions have included the Lynn Painter Stainers Prize, the Threadneedle Prize, the Discerning Eye and the Marmite Prize and he has exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
All my work is based upon years of drawing from life, alongside a process of improvisation, during which subjects and associations may suggest themselves. However focussed exploration through drawing may be, the more satisfying works 'fall through the cracks', are seemingly unexpected.
